Born on October 10th, 1973 in Benin City, Edo State, Nigeria; Princess Modupé Ozolua is a Nigerian-American philanthropist and entrepreneur born into the Royal Family of the great Benin Kingdom, Nigeria. Her name, Modupé, is of Yoruba, Nigerian origin and means, "I Give Thanks."
Through her father, Prince Julius Ozolua (Orejere of Ora, Sabongidda-Ora) she is the direct 10th generation descendant of Benin's greatest-warrior, HRM Oba (King) Ozolua n'Ibaromi (Ozolua the Conqueror) formerly known as Prince Okpame aka Uguan of the Benin Kingdom.
Ozolua was the youngest son of legendary Oba Ewuare The Great and father of Oba Esigie. Some of Ozolua's many historical accomplishments includes expanding the Kingdom through warfare, is traditionally recorded as the first ruler in West Africa to have contact with Portuguese explorers, encouraged bilateral trade, allowed them to establish missionary stations and sent Chief Ohen Okun of Ughoton to Lisbon, Portugal as an ambassador. Ohen Okun returned to Benin in 1514 and this appointment by Oba Ozolua is the first historically known diplomatic mission of Nigerian origin to Europe.
Legendary warrior Queen Idia was Oba Ozolua's favorite wife. Her Ivory face mask is one of Africa's most symbolic artifacts, was used as the official emblem of the pan-Africanist FESTAC 77 cultural festival in 1977 and is still on display at the British Museum, United Kingdom.
Princess Modupé is the youngest of 4 children with a 20years gap between her and the 3rd sibling. Her mother, Princess Mary Ozolua was a Princess from the Ósósó Kingdom, Edo State whom passed away in 2001 shortly after Princess Modupé pioneered cosmetic surgery in Nigeria; while her father, whom she was very close to and fondly called her "My Daughter Special," died in 2005.
In 2019, the royal title, "The Oyimizé of Ósósó Kingdom" meaning "The One We Choose" was bestowed on Princess Modupé by His Royal Majesty, Oba Anselm Adeloro Obaitan (Ichama II) of Ósósó Kingdom in recognition of her selfless contributions to humanity and honorably representing the great Benin Kingdom and Edo State.
This title will be inherited by Princess Modupé's descendants.
Princess Modupé obtained her elementary and high school education in Nigeria, West Africa before relocating to America in 1991. She earned an Associate Of Science degree in Business Administration (graduated with Honors) from Southwestern College, San Diego, California where she was inducted into the prestigious Phi Theta Kappa Alumni (Alpha Pi Epsilon) Honors Students’ Society in 1995. Her academic excellence continuously put her on the US National Deans' List.
She also earned a Bachelor of Business Technical Management Degree from DeVry International University, Los Angeles where she graduated with Magna Cum Laude distinction.
In 1994 at 21 years old, Princess Ozolua owned her first business in Los Angeles, California before in 2001 and at 27, she pioneered cosmetic surgery in Nigeria, West Africa. This revolutionized, Nigeria, the World’s most populous black nation’s beauty and health sectors.
Pioneering cosmetic surgery in Nigeria through her business, Body Enhancement Ltd, earned her national and international press, recognitions and awards including recognition by Elle Magazine (South Africa) in 2015 as “One of Africa’s leading female entrepreneurs.”
She owns different global businesses.
In 2003, she founded Empower 54, a US 501 © 3 to non-profit organization which provides humanitarian aid such as health, education, empowerment of women/girls and refugee programs to disadvantaged Africans across the Continent. His Emeritus Archbishop Desmond Tutu was the Patron of Empower 54.
Her selfless contributions towards humanity earned her the United States of America President's Lifetime Achievement Award for philanthropy (2023).
In 2019, Princess Ozolua accepted the position of Senior Special Assistant on NGOs, to the Deputy President of the 9th Senate, National Assembly in Nigeria. She initiated and facilitated some historical projects including enabling the Nigerian government create its first national database of NGOs which simultaneously connects with other regulatory MDAs databases.
In addition, she initiated and presided over the process of creating a Standard Operation Procedure (SOP) to create a seamless of clearing charitable items into the country.
She strategically applied great leadership and diplomatic skills as Chair of numerous government committees overseeing UN agencies, ministries, agencies, donors and NGOs operating within the Federal Republic of Nigeria.
The Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) Honorary Consul to Lagos, Nigeria. In 2020, His Excellency, Felix Tshisekedi, President of the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) bestowed Princess Ozolua with the historical nomination as the Democratic Republic of Congo’s Honorary Consul in Nigeria.
This was the first time a Nigerian received this official appointment from the Democratic Republic of Congo.
Princess Ozolua does consultancy services on government and non-profit engagements. Her clients include the European Union and British Council's Agents for Citizen-Driven Transformation (ACT) Program on Civil Society Legislative, internation charity entities, corporate organizations and governments.
Her passionate contribution to helping humanity for over 19 years has earned her numerous awards and recognitions. Princess Modupé genuine desire to positively impact humanity has been globally recognized through numerous awards, letters of commendations, Official Proclamation from the City of Atlanta, Georgia and an Official Proclamation declaring her birthday, October 10th, "Princess Modupé Ozolua’s day" in Houston, Texas, USA (2019).
Princess Ozolua is divorced, has a son, Prince Séun Ozolua-Osunbade, and lives in America. She loves spending time with her son, traveling, watching Chinese Wuxia movies, listening to music (especially House and Arabic); theatrical performances (especially the Orchestra), shooting, outdoor adventures, discovering new cultures and cuisine.
